Often when I need inspiration for a piece, somewhere in nature is my first go-to. There are so many natural patterns, colors, textures and shapes to take reference from. With this piece, I looked out onto my back deck and saw the potted magnolia plant my sister had placed there. The colors spoke to me, the bright petals standing out against the grey and green backdrop. I grabbed a couple bottles of paint, set the paper down on my patio, and started splattering the page. The final outcome was unlike anything I’d made recently, but the freedom of throwing paint in the air ignited all the creativity inside of me.
Art should always be that fun to make. Of course, the title is an ode to the magnolia plant that inspired the color palette in the first place.
